Who is your favorite Bridgerverse protagonist so far?

Summary

  • The format of Netflix's Bridgerton, inherited from the source novel series, implies many main characters.
  • So far we have had six leads, four in the main series and two in the spinoff.
  • Take a look at the Reddit poll to see who the fan favorites are.

It's no secret that Netflix's Bridgerton series is based on and follows the format of Julia Quinn's eponymous romantic novel series, with each novel/season focusing on a new protagonist and their love story.

This approach presents both exciting opportunities and challenges for the show's creators. On the one hand, each season can be a separate story with its own tone, tropes, development, and main characters.

On the other hand, each lead must be unique and endearing in his or her own way. You can't just show the same set of character traits and traumas behind different faces without the show becoming boring in the long run. The romantic genre makes it even more difficult. The writers have two main characters to tackle each season.

All Bridgerton Leads

So far, the Bridgerton creators have handled the task perfectly.

The premiere season of 2020 focused on Daphne Bridgerton, the eldest daughter of the titular family, and her sizzling romance with the Duke of Hastings, Simon Basset. It not only introduced millions of viewers to the universe, but also made them stick with the show.

The second season of 2022 was all about the head of the household, Viscount Anthony Bridgerton, and his love-hate relationship with free-spirited spinster Kate Sharma. The story was toned down sexually, but the tension and chemistry between the leads, as well as the dramatic aspect, was off the charts.

In 2023, the Bridgerverse expanded with the prequel Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, lovingly penned by Shonda Rhimes herself, which revolved around the fictionalized version of young Queen Charlotte and King George's marriage story.

The spinoff became a valuable addition to the universe and won several prestigious awards, including Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series for India Ria Amarteifio, who plays young Charlotte. But did its leads manage to outdo the Bridgertons in the eyes of viewers?

We have a way to find out.

Who's the best?

Bridgerverse fans recently took to the show's subreddit to vote for their favorite of the six protagonists mentioned above. Nearly 1,000 fans participated in the poll. The results may surprise you, as the two title siblings are in very different places.

Here's the fan ranking:

6. 5% Simon Basset (Season 1)

5. 7% Daphne Bridgerton (Season 1)

4. 10% King George (Queen Charlotte spinoff)

3. 18% Queen Charlotte (Queen Charlotte spinoff)

2. 29% Kate Sharma (Season 2)

1. 31% Anthony Bridgerton (Season 2)

As you can see, the fans have clearly shown their preference when it comes to the separate Bridgerverse stories. Charlotte and George left Daphne and Simon far behind. And Kate got really close to Anthony, even though she was a new character in Season 2. It seems that having your last name in the title doesn't automatically mean fan love.

It will certainly be interesting to see where the leads of the Bridgerton Season 3 will stand in this fan rating. Kate and Anthony's story made such an impression on viewers that Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington have a tall order to fill.
