Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki have just made the fans go crazy.

Summary

  • While Supernatural ended on a note of finality, Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles recently teased that it may not be over.
  • The actors said they are in talks to bring the Winchester brothers back to the small screen.
  • This is not the first time the two stars have expressed a desire to revive the show.

Yes, you read that correctly. The adventures of the Winchester brothers ended three years ago, in 2020, after a 15-season run, on a heartbreaking note that had a definitive sense of finality to it.

Jensen Ackles' Dean died a hero's death fighting vampires and saving children, and went to Heaven where he met all of his loved ones, including the iconic Chevrolet Impala (instead of Castiel who went to Super Hell). His brother Sam (Jared Padalecki) burned Dean's body, grieved, and moved on with his life.

He married, had a son (named Dean, of course), grew old and died peacefully of natural causes, reuniting with Dean in Heaven. There's no coming back from that, is there?

Yet, the stars of the fan-adored series recently teased the possibility of Season 16.

Ackles & Padalecki share exciting hints

The actors spoke with fans at the 2023 Creation Honolulu convention in November. When one of the fans asked them about the events following the Winchester brothers' reunion in Heaven, Jared Padalecki had a surprising answer that sent fans into a frenzy.

'I have some ideas, and I hope that now that the writers are back, and the actors are back, that we all get together,' the actor said (via Collider), prompting a wave of cheers and applause from the crowd.

After some hilarious back and forth, Jensen Ackles also added fuel to the fire of the fans' hopes.

'Stay tuned on that,' he said. 'There are some conversations regarding that conversation that are being had.'

How could a revival happen?

While the cast didn't give any more hints about how their characters could return to our screens, it's clear that some supernatural stuff has to happen for the story to continue. Luckily, the show doesn't have a shortage of that kind of stuff.

The brothers could be resurrected in their young bodies, the finale could be ruled out as some kind of 'dream' or 'nightmare', or their new adventures could take place in Heaven when something threatens its existence.

Also, Supernatural's spin-off The Winchesters opened up the possibility of a multiverse in Eric Kripke's universe. So Ackles and Padalecki could just be playing alternate versions of Dean and Sam.

In any case, one thing is for sure, both actors have said over and over since Supernatural ended that they would jump at the chance to drive the Impala again. And fans would definitely jump at the chance to see the brothers share the screen again.

So the revival seems to be more of a matter of time, really.
