Two Fan-Favorite Comedies Featuring The Wackiest Duos Finally Land On Netflix
It's time for a gleefully stupid rewatch.
Summary
- Netflix adds dozens of new titles every month.
- Surprisingly, some of the best old movies have only recently been added to the platform.
- Two of these must-watch comedies landed on the service in March.
Netflix's libraries are vast and contain some of the best titles in the history of cinema and television. Yet every month, when we open the lists of new movies and shows landing on the streaming platform, it surprises us.
It is hard to believe that some of the old licensed goodies have just been added to the service. For example, in March 2024, Netflix picked up two comedies that we'd completely forgotten about, but are definitely worth revisiting.
Both revolve around the bro dynamic and star the wackiest duos in comedy history.
Jim Carrey & Jeff Daniels
Dumb and Dumber (1994)
Who doesn't know Dumb and Dumber? But it was only this month that the iconic film was added to the Netflix library. Now even the youngest generations (well, anyone over the age of 13) can discover it and join its cult following.
Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels play two dimwitted but well-meaning friends and roommates, Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne, who have only one dream - to open a pet store. Instead, they find themselves embroiled in a dangerous kidnapping case when Lloyd accidentally picks up a briefcase full of ransom money.
Why do fans love this comedy? Well, it is definitely not an Oscar-winning movie, but it has that kind of 'stupid funny' humor that holds for years. You can't watch Lloyd and Harry get dumber and dumber with each new scene with a straight face, even 30 years after the movie premiered.
Will Ferrell & John C. Reilly
Step Brothers (2008)
If Dumb and Dumber is not enough to satisfy your hunger for silly humor, you can always watch Step Brothers. It is not as legendary, but what a binge the two movies would make for!
As you can imagine, Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly are an explosive duo. They play 40-year-old men, Brennan Huff and Dale Doback, who are immature, don't work anywhere and still live with their parents, both single.
One day the parents meet, fall in love and decide to get married, forcing Brennan and Dale to share a house as step-brothers. At first they hate each other and act like spoiled children. But over time, they face common external threats, mature (without getting much smarter), and slowly become a team.
While there is some criticism from viewers about the jokes that fail to land and the paper-thin plot, the movie is fun to spend time with if you let it be as stupid and immature as its characters. As a bonus, Step Brothers features Will Ferrell singing and John C. Reilly drumming.
