Chris Evans Has One Condition For Return As Captain America
What Marvel projects could Cap appear in?
Summary
- Talk of Marvel Studios bringing back the original Avengers continues.
- Chris Evans recently addressed the rumors and said that no one from the studio has contacted him about reprising the role of Captain America.
- The actor reiterated his previous claims that he would only return to the MCU if Cap's arc was continued in a satisfying manner.
Ever since Endgame hit theaters and MCU fans lost three original Avengers in one fell swoop, talk of their return to the universe has been non-stop.
The speculation was recently fueled by rumors that the possibility of the fan-favorite actors reprising their roles is being discussed in the offices of Marvel Studios.
Chris Evans joins the conversation
One of the actors that fans are eager to see don his MCU superhero costume again is Chris Evans, who portrayed Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, for nine years. And he addressed the rumors during an appearance on The View on Monday.
'You know, I always see those reports too, and it's news to me. I think every couple months, someone says that they're getting Downey, and Hemsworth, and Scarlet, and everyone's coming back!' Evans said. 'No one's spoken to me about it.'
Needless to say, this is not the first time Evans gets asked about coming back. But the actor's answer remains firm: he's not closing the door, but he does have one condition - that Steve Rogers' arc be continued in a meaningful way.
'Look, I would never say never, but I really — I'm very protective. It's a very precious role to me, so it would have to be just right,' the actor told The View.
Well, that's hard to argue with, isn't it?
What projects might Evans return to?
With the actor so convincingly denying any contact from Marvel Studios, it's safe to assume he's not part of Deadpool 3, which is set to premiere next summer and become a true multiverse cameo fest.
The movie has just resumed shooting after the Hollywood strikes and if Evans were going to be in it, he would already know about it.
However, The Multiverse Saga gives plenty of opportunity for other projects to feature Captain America from an alternate universe. On Earth-616, Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson now sports the red, white, and blue shield, but in some parallel brunch, it could still be Steve Rogers.
Of course, the most obvious multiverse project for a Steve variant to appear would be the Avengers movies, The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars, which are set to conclude Phase Six.
Other than that, it would be exciting to see a spinoff that followed 'our' Steve Rogers after he returned the Infinity Stones and decided to start a new life with Peggy Carter. It could be a heartwarming family show set in the 1950s with a dash of superhuman adventure. We would definitely watch something like that, wouldn't you?
