US cinema chains have now confirmed Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s IMAX bow for this week, with tickets going live tomorrow at a set time.

If you were hoping to catch Spider-Man: Brand New Day at your local IMAX, there’s good news, and a bit of a logistical dance, thanks to Christopher Nolan’s sprawling The Odyssey still holding a few screens hostage. Let’s just say IMAX are squeezing as much eight-legged box office out of this summer as they can.

IMAX Tightrope: Spider-Man vs Nolan

Normally, any slick new Marvel blockbuster would sashay straight onto the IMAX menu without fuss. But Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is in no hurry to budge, especially when it comes to those precious 70mm shows—that’s exclusivity you can feel in your bones. Still, starting this Thursday, 6 August, Spider-Man is taking over a fair chunk of the digital IMAX screenings. So, if you were desperate for that wall-crawling action in oversized sound and vision, it’s time to pounce on those tickets—they go on sale tomorrow. Just ring ahead or actually check what’s screening, because the lineup’s a patchwork: Odyssey sticks to 70mm, Spidey claims digital.

There’s a fun bit of overlap here—Tom Holland, Jon Bernthal and Zendaya star in both The Odyssey and Brand New Day. They’re pulling double duty with the format-hopping. Not often you find the same cast running the IMAX board like this.

The Box Office Web and IMAX’s Plans

IMAX’s CEO, Rich Gelfond, isn’t exactly shy about why they’re sticking with Spidey. Here’s how he put it on the record, trumpeting Spider-Man’s continued IMAX dominance and a cheeky nudge at those opening weekend figures:

‘Spider-Man has been among the most bankable superheroes at the global box office for over two decades — with the franchise delivering $365 million in IMAX receipts to date — and Brand New Day is taking that legacy to new heights with its record-breaking opening weekend. We believe more Spidey fans around the world will want to experience his latest adventure in IMAX — and we hope to be a major driver of both new and repeat viewing for the latest hit in this incredible year for moviegoing.’
