Scrubs aired season ten in February and airs season two on Wednesday
Scrubs aired its tenth season in February. On Wednesday it airs its second. Those are consecutive seasons of the same show on the same network, and both numbers are official.
ABC brings Scrubs back on Wednesday 30 September with a two-episode premiere at 8pm. The network is calling it season two.
The season before it — the one that aired from 25 February to 15 April this year, with the same cast, on the same network, nine episodes — is catalogued as season ten.
Ten, then two. Consecutively. Neither number is a mistake.
How a show gets two numbering systems at once
The original Scrubs ran nine seasons on NBC and then ABC, finishing in 2010. Its ninth season was already a strange object: a soft reboot set at a medical school with a largely new cast, which a good portion of the audience has spent fifteen years declining to count.
The 2026 revival ignores season nine's events outright. That makes it a direct continuation of season eight, which is why it was filed as season ten — a continuation counts forward from what it continues.
Then ABC renewed it on 30 April, six weeks after the finale, and the renewal was announced as a second season of the revival. Both descriptions are defensible. Together they produce a show whose tenth season is followed by its second.
The first revival season lost a third of its audience across nine episodes

That is a 33 per cent fall from premiere to finale — but the shape matters more than the headline. Almost the entire drop happens between episodes one and two. From episode four onwards the show holds within a tenth of a million of itself for six straight weeks.
A premiere inflated by curiosity, then a flat line. In 2026 broadcast comedy, a flat line is a renewal.

What is still unknown
The episode order for the new run, which ABC has not published. Whether the second batch holds the three million the first one settled at, without a premiere-week curiosity spike to inflate the average. And what happens to the numbering if there is a third revival season, at which point the show will be simultaneously on its eleventh and its third.
A series that spent nine years making jokes about hospital bureaucracy has ended up with two incompatible filing systems for itself. Somewhere in there, that is the correct outcome.
