Proper Mind Benders: Top 5 Rick and Morty Episodes Ranked by IMDb Score
Which one is your personal favorite?
Over the course of its ten-year, seven-season run, Rick and Morty has aired 65 episodes that have changed the way we look at adult animation.
Some have been more adventurous and gory, while others, including the most recent That's Amorte, have really rattled our brains with deeply philosophical themes.
But which are the best of the best? Let's take a look at what IMDb users think and see if you agree.
5. S3E3 Pickle Rick – 9.3/10
The episode in which Rick turns himself into a pickle to avoid family therapy has become iconic thanks to several layers of storytelling. Rick is pickled both literally and figuratively.
Spiced with hyper-violence, good old-fashioned espionage and Russian mafia intrigue, the adventures and tricks of the genius pickle will keep you laughing and on the edge of your seat.
But the metaphor of Rick as an alcoholic who refuses to take responsibility for hurting his family is profound and makes the episode one of the darkest in the entire series.
4. S4E8 The Vat of Acid Episode – 9.4/10
The Emmy-winning episode in which Rick gives Morty a button that can reset time and undo anything done after the saved point in time turned into a massive massacre story when it was revealed that the button only transported Morty between universes, killing his variants in them and putting him in their places.
Countless Morties killed, millions of lives ruined, dozens of universes destroyed, all to teach Morty a lesson. Classic Rick.
3. S2E4 Total Rickall – 9.5/10
The episode where intergalactic parasites infest the Smith house and the family kills everyone they have only good memories of introduced Mr. Poopybutthole along with a bunch of other extremely well-developed and deep characters created with one purpose: to kill them off.
The storytelling is clever and the creativity is through the roof.
2. S3E1 The Rickshank Rickdemption – 9.6/10
The Season 3 premiere episode, in which Rick executes an elaborate plan to escape from the Galactic Federation prison, not only revealed his true motives and set up storylines for many episodes to come, but also reignited the public's interest in McDonald's signature Szechuan sauce.
1. S3E7 The Ricklantis Mixup – 9.8/10
Surprisingly, the best Rick and Morty episode, as voted by IMDb users, almost doesn't feature the C-137 protagonists at all.
The episode, also known as Tales from the Citadel, takes viewers on a wild ride into the Interdimensional Citadel of Ricks, which is being reconstructed after Rick's earlier intervention, and features several jaw-dropping stories involving various Ricks and Morties.
It also expands the arc of Evil Morty, who becomes the Citadel's new president.
