Dexter: Resurrection season 2 returns October 30 with three serial killers in its path
The official synopsis puts Dexter between two killers. The trailer coverage names three: Brian Cox, Dan Stevens and Gabriel Luna. Season two arrives on Paramount+ on October 30.
Dexter: Resurrection returns to Paramount+ on October 30, and the official synopsis for season two says Dexter Morgan is caught between two killers. The trailer coverage counts three.
Deadline's write-up of the new trailer introduces the two "new killers": The New York Ripper, Don Frampt (Brian Cox), a serial killer who terrorised the city years ago, and Owen Stark (Dan Stevens), the Five Borough Killer, described as the season's second big bad. A few paragraphs later the same story adds a third: Ray Ballard (Gabriel Luna), who operates as The Sleepy-Eyed Stranger.
Two killers in the logline, three in the cast
The premise, from showrunner and executive producer Clyde Phillips, is built on a pair. One killer has decades of notoriety and a lifetime of kills behind him. The other is a fresh young face terrorising New York in ways nobody has seen. That maps neatly onto Cox and Stevens.
Gabriel Luna's Sleepy-Eyed Stranger is not in that logline. Deadline says he will be "highlighted" in season two, without saying how he fits. For a show built around a serial killer hunting serial killers, that leaves the season's real body count of antagonists open.
The synopsis adds a fourth enemy that isn't a person at all. Dexter, it says, is battling a midlife crisis.
The resurrection in the title is literal
The show's name is a joke the franchise earned. Dexter: New Blood premiered on Showtime on November 7, 2021, and ended with Dexter's son Harrison shooting him. The original series had already ended in 2013 with a finale that, by Michael C. Hall's own account, polarised fans.
Resurrection reopened New Blood's ending. It is set ten weeks after New Blood, with Dexter recovered from what is now described as a near-fatal gunshot wound, tracking a missing Harrison to New York City while Captain Angel Batista follows him from Miami. Season one premiered on Paramount+ with Showtime on July 11, 2025, ran for ten episodes and was renewed in October 2025.
Clyde Phillips has now steered both revivals. For New Blood he chose a time jump of nearly a decade after the original finale. For Resurrection he went the other way, picking up just ten weeks later. Season one's cast also included Uma Thurman, Peter Dinklage, David Zayas and Emilia Suárez.
Not everyone from that season is gone. Deadline has separately reported that Eric Stonestreet is returning for season two, which makes the guest list from season one less closed than the trailer suggests.
Who is back, and who might be
- Michael C. Hall as Dexter Morgan, now facing a midlife crisis on top of everything else.
- Jack Alcott as Harrison, who continues his own pursuit of justice. The synopsis promises father and son their darkest chapter yet.
- Brian Cox as Don Frampt, The New York Ripper.
- Dan Stevens as Owen Stark, the Five Borough Killer.
- Gabriel Luna as Ray Ballard, The Sleepy-Eyed Stranger.
- Desmond Harrington as Joey Quinn. The franchise veteran appeared briefly in season one and has been upped to series regular.
- Bokeem Woodbine as Capt. Mixon and Nona Parker Johnson as Fiona Mixon, both new.
- Returning: Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Kadia Saraf, Dominic Fumusa and James Remar.
The Krysten Ritter question
Krysten Ritter is also coming back, and nobody will say how. Her character, Mia LaPierre, known as Lady Vengeance, is at the centre of fan speculation. Deadline lays out both options: she could still be alive, or she could return as a ghost.
Either way, the trailer coverage confirms only that Ritter is in the season. Her billing, episode count and form of appearance have not been announced. For a show whose title already brought its lead back from a gunshot, neither option would be a stretch.
The season in numbers
- Return date: October 30, 2026, on Paramount+.
- Gap since season one: season one premiered on July 11, 2025, so season two arrives about 15 months later.
- Renewal: October 2025, a year before the return.
- Season one length: ten episodes.
- Named killers in season two: three, against a logline that mentions two.
What is still unknown
- How Ritter returns. Alive or ghost, nobody has confirmed.
- Where the third killer fits. The logline has two. The cast list has three.
- The episode count. Season one had ten. Season two's count has not been given in the trailer coverage.
New Blood ended with Dexter shot by his own son. Five years later, he is back for a second season of a show called Resurrection, hunting three killers and a midlife crisis.
