Colman Domingo Is Making a Haunted-House Thriller With a Yellowjackets Writer
Netflix has landed The Headlands House, a thriller limited series starring Colman Domingo, after what Deadline describes as a competitive situation — meaning several buyers wanted it and Netflix paid to win.
The logline: a gay couple move into their dream home and discover that the previous residents were murdered on the property. Their marriage starts coming apart. Their own lives may be at risk too.

Two things worth noticing
First: a Yellowjackets writer doing a domestic horror story about a marriage under pressure is a very specific pedigree. That show's whole method is putting people in an impossible situation and then filming the relationships rather than the threat. Applied to a haunted house and a couple who just signed a mortgage, that could be excellent.
Second: AMC Studios making a series for Netflix is a structural signal about where the business is heading. AMC's Kristin Dolan said on a recent earnings call that producing for other distributors is a natural extension of the studio's development process. AMC Studios also developed Apple TV's Silo before Apple Studios took it over.
Studios used to build shows for their own channels. Increasingly they build them for whoever pays, and the channel is just one bidder among several.
This would be Domingo's third Netflix series after The Madness and The Four Seasons, which has earned him two Emmy nominations across its two seasons. No release date yet.
