Brad Pitt stepped in as Scott Eastwood, Shia LaBeouf nearly fought on Fury set
Scott Eastwood is pulling back the curtain on Fury’s fraught shoot—including the moment a co-star had to step in and defuse a near-fight between castmates.
It started with spit. While filming Fury, Scott Eastwood says he spat chewing tobacco on a tank during a take, Shia LaBeouf confronted him over it, tempers flared, and Brad Pitt stepped between them before it went any further. Eastwood shared the story on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast.
What set it off
Eastwood said he’d kept some distance from LaBeouf after hearing about how intensely he was preparing for the movie. According to Eastwood, LaBeouf had even removed one of his own teeth and injured himself before cameras rolled — part of the actor’s head-first approach to the World War II drama. The dustup began when LaBeouf objected to Eastwood spitting on the tank, and the argument escalated on set until Pitt intervened.
“Brad Pitt sort of broke up a little tense moment,” Eastwood recalled.
The Fury grind
Directed by David Ayer, the 2014 film drops a U.S. Army tank crew into the closing months of World War II. Pitt played battle-hardened Sgt. Don “Wardaddy” Collier; Eastwood was cast as Sgt. Miles. The production became known for military-style training and an immersive shoot that pushed its ensemble hard.
