Avatar: Seven Havens is renewed for two more seasons on the day it premiered
Paramount+ ordered Books 3 and 4 at New York Comic Con as the first three episodes went live. Book 1 doesn't finish until October 30.
Avatar: Seven Havens was renewed for two more seasons on the day it premiered. Paramount+ committed to Books 3 and 4 before anyone outside the studio had seen how Book 1 ends.
The announcement came at the show's New York Comic Con panel on Friday, October 9, timed to the release of the first three episodes. Co-creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko made it from the stage at the Javits Center, with executive producer Ethan Spaulding, co-executive producer Sehaj Sethi and voice cast Saheli Khan, Aishu Devan and Major Curda. Janet Varney, the original voice of Korra, moderated. The panel also showed behind-the-scenes footage and a script-to-screen clip.
Four books ordered before the first one finished
Seven Havens was never a cautious bet. When Nickelodeon announced it on February 21, 2025, the 20th anniversary of Avatar: The Last Airbender's debut, it ordered 26 half-hour episodes across two seasons at once: Books 1 and 2. So Book 2 was already locked before the show had a release date.
Friday's renewal adds two more. Paramount+ has not given episode counts for Books 3 and 4. If they match the first two, the franchise has committed to 52 episodes of a show whose first season is still rolling out week by week.
Book 1 is being released in batches:
- October 9: episodes 1–3
- October 16: episodes 4–6
- October 23: episodes 7–9
- October 30: episodes 10–13
The renewal arrived three weeks before Book 1's finale.
Deadline got the name of the previous show wrong
Deadline's report of the renewal describes the new Avatar as arriving "after Korra from Legends of Korra". The series is The Legend of Korra, singular. Variety's original 2025 order story lists it correctly, as Avatar: The Legend of Korra, which ran on Nickelodeon for four seasons between 2012 and 2014.
The same Deadline story also includes a paragraph about a different show entirely. It describes Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos, about a rebellious teenage Avatar travelling the world to learn the elements, and names Konietzko as its showrunner. Readers skimming the renewal news could easily take that synopsis for Seven Havens. It isn't.
What Seven Havens is about
- Setting: a world shattered by a devastating cataclysm, after the era of Korra.
- Lead: a young Earthbender, Pavi, who discovers she is the new Avatar. In this era the title marks her as humanity's destroyer, not its saviour.
- The twist: she has a long-lost twin sister, Nisha. The two are hunted by human and spirit enemies while they try to uncover their origins.
- Format: 2D animation, half-hour episodes, made by Avatar Studios at Nickelodeon Animation in Burbank.
- Creators: DiMartino and Konietzko, who made the original series and Korra.
- Voices: Saheli Khan, Aishu Devan and Major Curda voice Pavi, Nisha and Jae, in the order Deadline lists them.
- Production history: ordered at Nickelodeon in February 2025, when it was already in production. It now streams on Paramount+.
- Executive producers: DiMartino, Konietzko and Ethan Spaulding, with Sehaj Sethi as co-executive producer.
The creators are back in charge
The renewal matters for a reason beyond episode counts. Netflix launched a live-action Last Airbender in 2024, and DiMartino and Konietzko left that project long before it debuted, citing creative differences. Seven Havens puts the world back in the hands of the two people who invented it, under Nickelodeon's Avatar Studios banner.
Paramount has now given them four books. Korra ran for four seasons between 2012 and 2014. Seven Havens, the third animated Avatar series, has matched that total before its own first book is out.
It also fits a bigger plan. When the show was ordered, Paramount said the 20th anniversary would bring a large wave of new Avatar material, including digital shorts, live experiences, consumer products and games. Ramsey Naito, president of Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation, called Seven Havens the next chapter of the saga. A four-book commitment is what a next chapter looks like when the studio means it.
What is still unknown
- Episode counts for Books 3 and 4. Deadline says details on Books 2, 3 and 4 will follow later.
- Release windows. No dates for Book 2 or beyond.
- Viewership. Deadline's report includes no viewing figures for the premiere. The renewal came without them.
Nickelodeon ordered two books before the show had a date. Paramount+ ordered two more before the first book had an ending.
