10 Underrated Will Forte Movies That Deserve More Credit
We all know Will Forte is hilarious on "SNL" and "The Last Man on Earth," but there's so much more to his filmography than that.
Here are some of the criminally overlooked Will Forte movies that need more love.
1. "MacGruber" (2010)
"MacGruber," the comedy film adapted from an "SNL" sketch, parodies the '80s TV series "MacGyver." So, what's it all about? MacGruber, an ex-special ops agent, assembles a team to take down his arch-nemesis, Dieter von Cunth. They're hunting for a nuclear warhead that Dieter's stolen.
A series of inept actions by MacGruber leads to the death of his team – by accidental explosion, no less. Teaming up with an old friend and his deceased wife's ghost, MacGruber stops Dieter by, get this, ripping out his throat.
2. "Nebraska" (2013)
The film is about an elderly man named Woody Grant who thinks he's won a million dollars. Despite his family telling him it's a scam, he's determined to go to Nebraska to claim his prize. His son David agrees to drive him there. Along the way, they stop in Woody's hometown, where David learns about his dad's past and the people he left behind. Also, everyone starts to think Woody is rich, causing all sorts of chaos.
3. "Run & Jump" (2013)
Vanetia is struggling to hold her family together after her husband Conor suffers a stroke that changes his personality. An American doctor named Ted comes to live with them for two months to study Conor's behavior for his research. Though Vanetia is resistant to Ted at first, she finds comfort and a surprising connection with him as they are dealing with Conor's condition.
4. "A Good Old Fashioned Orgy" (2011)
A group of 30-something friends who have partied together for years find out that their beloved summer playground (a house) is being sold. What's their grand idea for a final blowout? An orgy, naturally. They all agree to partake, but as the day gets closer, they start second-guessing their decision.
Emotions run high, jealousy ensues, and they all have to deal with the awkwardness of what they're about to do.
5. "The Brothers Solomon" (2007)
Two socially awkward brothers, John and Dean Solomon, find out that their dad is in a coma. To fulfill his dream of having a grandchild, they decide to find someone to have a baby with. Their total lack of social skills makes for hilarious encounters. They find a woman willing to be a surrogate, and as the pregnancy progresses, they stumble through lessons on parenthood.
6. "She's Funny That Way" (2014)
A married Broadway director falls for a prostitute-turned-actress named Izzy, and offers her a role in his upcoming production. To complicated things further, his wife is also in the play, along with her ex-lover who is a writer named Joshua Fleet, played by Will Forte. Joshua starts dating Izzy without knowing her history. Hijinks ensue, as you can imagine.
Affairs, misunderstandings, and a whole lot of romantic musical chairs make for one hilarious and twisted comedy.
7. "Don Verdean" (2015)
Biblical archaeologist Don Verdean is hired by a pastor to find faith-promoting relics in the Holy Land. The thing is, the whole operation is more of a scam than a holy mission. Verdean and his partner fabricate findings like "Lot's wife" (turned into a pillar of salt) and claim to have discovered the skull of Goliath. As you might guess, things go south.
8. "Beerfest" (2006)
Two brothers, Jan and Todd Wolfhouse, go to Germany for Oktoberfest, only to stumble upon a secret, centuries-old competition described as Fight Club with beer games.
Embarrassed by their loss, they return to America and train for the next year. Along the way, they discover a family secret: a beer recipe that's supposedly the best in the world. They enter the competition again, aiming for both the title and the honor of their family's beer legacy.
9. "That's My Boy" (2012)
In this Adam Sandler-led comedy Todd, a successful businessman, is about to get married. Enter his estranged father, Donny, who needs $43,000 to pay off the IRS to avoid jail. Donny crashes the wedding weekend, trying various schemes to get the money.
Will Forte plays Phil, Todd's boss, who fires him and later crashes his wedding, creating even more chaos in an already disorderly weekend.
10. "Keanu" (2016)
Two friends, Rell and Clarence, find a kitten and name it Keanu. The kitten is stolen by a drug dealer, and the two pose as notorious killers to infiltrate the gang and get Keanu back. Rell and Clarence soon find themselves in over their heads, and chaos ensues as they navigate through the criminal underworld. Will Forte plays Hulka, a rival drug dealer, adding more problems to the mix.
