Let's face it, it's hard to call the Smith family of Rick and Morty healthy or mature.
The head of the household, Beth, suffers from severe abandonment issues. Jerry is spineless and codependent. Summer and Morty are the angsty and self-centered teenagers who unfortunately have the most advanced technology at their disposal. And Rick Sanchez is probably the most messed up person in any known fictional universe.
Throughout its 7-season run, the show has proven time and time again how broken its protagonists' moral compass is. So when the question of which action of each of the Rick and Morty characters was the worst came up in a fan discussion, there was no shortage of suggestions.
After some heated debate, the fans managed to choose one horrible thing done by each member of the Smith family by popular upvote. Here's what they picked.
Morty: The massacre in the name of being horny
S4E1 Edge of Tomorty: Rick Die Rickpeat
In this episode, Morty, armed with a death crystal that shows a person's possible deaths, decides to do whatever it takes to make sure he reaches the outcome where Jessica is at his bedside when he dies of old age. This leads him to kill tons of people, drive a judge to suicide, and try to destroy the world. All for the sake of being attracted to a girl.
Jerry: Leaving Beth to fight feral hobo
S2E4 Total Rickall
The scene where Jerry is chased by a crazy homeless man armed with a broken bottle and locks himself in the car, leaving his wife outside to deal with the threat on her own, is only a small part of the episode about the alien parasite that implants false memories. But it is the most telling act by Jerry. This man can be pathetic like no one else.
Beth/Space Beth: The Froopyland shenanigans
S3E9 The ABC's of Beth
Beth and Space Beth were one and the same, and still children, when they trapped their childhood friend Tommy in Rick-created Froopyland out of jealousy. Beth felt that Tommy's father loved him more than Rick loved her. What's worse, Beth forgot her terrible betrayal and left Tommy, who was slowly turning into a monster, in Froopyland until his father was charged guilty of his death and nearly executed.
Summer: Working for the Devil
S1E9 Something Ricked This Way Comes
Summer is probably the most well-meaning character in the show. But even she has done some questionable things. The worst of them, according to fans, is when she willingly worked for the Devil in his store, selling things with harmful and deadly curses, justifying it only by saying that any company that hires teenagers is evil.
Rick: Everything
The man of this theme is, of course, Rick Sanchez, who has done so many terrible things in the name of his own interest, convenience, or pleasure (he fed his family human flesh, for heaven's sake) that it is impossible to single out just one. Several genocides and world-ending events were caused by Rick's actions and his idea to 'teach Morty a lesson,' which the grandson never seems to do. If anything, Rick is not only the title character, but also the main antagonist of the show.
