The new teaser came with it, and it makes clear this is a fresh standalone story — new characters, new voice cast, a reworked animation style, same Night City.
What's changed behind the camera
- Kai Ikarashi directs, taking over from Hiroyuki Imaishi. This is his directorial debut, but he's not a stranger: he storyboarded and directed the first season's standout sixth episode.
- Ichigo Kanno moves up to lead character designer after working as animation director and key animator on season one.
- Bartosz Sztybor and Masahiko Otsuka return as writers.
- Studio Trigger is still animating, with CD Projekt Red co-producing.
- Rico Nasty wrote and performs a track for the series.
What it's about
Netflix frames it as a raw story of revenge and redemption in a city that runs on violence and spectacle. The official synopsis asks how far you'd have to go to make your story matter in a world too distracted to look. Part of the trailer appears to be shot through a camcorder held by an unnamed character, which suggests somebody in this season is documenting the whole thing.
The first season retroactively rescued a video game's reputation and made an entire generation cry about a jacket. The bar is unreasonable and everyone involved knows it.
Edgerunners 2 is self-contained but still set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe. October 20, all ten episodes at once, Netflix.
